LIDO DI VENEZIA - NEW YEAR’S GREETINGS ON LIDO BEACH

Start the new year in style: swim in the freezing-cold waters of Venice’s Lido Beach along with a handful of brawe regulars.
The New Year’s Greetings mow more attracts than 2000 spectactors at a ridiculously early time for the morning after the last party of the year. But it must be worth it, even if after touching the water you decide to stay on the shore and watch - it is so popular that it has been classified amongst Venice’s top annual attractions.
The programme opens with a Viennese waltz at 11 am, continues with the hardy “ibernisti” swimmers taking a dip in the sea and concludes with a typical combination of wine, “lenticchie” and “cotechino” ( lentils and sausage).

From December 2nd through 24th, Venice features a large Christams market held in Campo Santo Stefano, a bustling area next to the Guggenheim Museum, Palazzo Grassi and Gallerie dell’Accademia. The market, which is sponsored by the Artisan Association, is displayed in a series of thirty small wooden houses similar to the ones in Northeren European countries. A suggestive background with “virtual” Venetian palaces will be set up around the market.
