WEDDING IN VENICE

senza-nome.jpg                                                                  You can celebrate your dream wedding in Venice within the splendid setting of Palazzo Cavalli, an historical palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal.
The Municipality of Venice provides couples from all over the world with the opportunity to pronounce their irrevocable “I do” by emerging themselves in the romantic atmosphere which only this lagoon city can offer.
Inside the building a series of rooms is set aside for the bride and groom, offering a breathtaking panorama over the Grand Canal and including a privileged view of the Rialto Bridge.
Of course, the most thrilling way to arrive is by gondola, accompanied by the delicate lapping of the water and by the magnificence of the façades of the palazzi which provide the ideal backdrop for a fairy-tale setting.
The historical Palazzo Cavalli stands in one of the most picturesque areas of Venice, overlooking the Grand Canal close to the Rialto Bridge. It is a three-floor, XVI century Renaissance building whose façade is characterised by a sequence of stone corbels above the base, which support the two main floors with their four- and one-mullioned windows. A visit here means discovering a wonderful room with XVIII century stuccoes.
The building takes its name from the Cavalli family who lived there; it was also the residence of the American novelist James Fenimore Cooper and of the art scholar Aldo Ravà who furnished the Palazzo in the typical, XVIII century Venetian style, with original paintings, furniture and ceramics.

Inside, a series of elegantly furnished rooms on the piano nobile are devoted to the bride and groom. The largest is full of light, with large windows overlooking the Grand Canal taking up one whole wall and providing a definitely privileged panorama. In it you can also admire an impressive painting entitled “The Golden Wedding” dating from 1909. The painting, an oil on canvas measuring 120 cm. by 207 cm., is a work by the famous Venetian artist Luigi Nono (1850-1918).
A delightful adjoining smaller room, finely decorated and enriched with period furniture, welcomes the bride and groom by providing a view of the unique and extraordinary Rialto Bridge.

The beauty and charm of the setting are further enhanced by the welcome and tact reserved for those couples who choose to celebrate their marriage in Venice.
In Palazzo Cavalli the bride and groom will have a group of expert people at their disposal, ready to create a magic and solemn atmosphere for their most romantic of days.

Be part of a fairy-tale, by choosing any day of the week at your favourite time of year.

What you need… and other informationArrangements for a civil marriage must be made in advance at the Registry Office.
A civil marriage must be celebrated in public in the Town Hall. Two witnesses must also be present (everyone must produce valid identification).

Residents: The publication of the marriage banns.

Residents in other Municipalities: The written request of the Mayor of the Municipality of residence where the marriage banns were published.

Non-resident foreign citizens:
- Austrian, Swiss, Spanish and German citizens must submit a certificate of their capacity to contract marriage issued by their own Municipality of residence.
- United States citizens must submit the sworn statement made at the American Consulate in Italy and the attested affidavit.
- All other foreign nationals must submit a declaration issued by the relevant authorities of their own country (Embassy or Consulate in Italy) stating that, in accordance with the laws to which they are subject, they are free to marry.

Civil marriage in a Municipality outside place of residence
When couples choose to marry in a Municipality that is not their place of residence, they must submit a specific motivated request, complete with stamp duty, to the Mayor of the Municipality where the marriage banns have been published.
Once the banns have been published for the required period, the Mayor makes a written request (Authorisation) to the Registrar of the place where the marriage is to be celebrated.

Place of marriage
A civil marriage takes place in the Town Hall.
If illness or some other impediment should prevent either the bride or the groom from reaching the Town Hall, then the Registrar and his Secretary shall go to the place where the impeded party is (home, hospital, prison, etc.) and celebrate the marriage in the presence of four witnesses.

Property
If, at the time of the marriage, couples do not inform the Registrar that they have chosen the “separation of property” option for administrating their respective estates, then “community of property” automatically applies. Couples can, at any time, draw up marriage contracts under the seal of a Public Notary.

Affiliation
When the marriage is celebrated, couples may also legally recognise any natural children born of the union. Legally recognised natural children become “legitimate children” when their parents marry.

Certificates
Immediately after the civil marriage ceremony, the Registrar can issue the marriage certificates. Up-dated registry certificates will be available 2 days after the marriage. If the couple resides in a different Municipality from where they got married, then a copy of the marriage certificate will be sent to the Municipality of residence.

VENICE MARATHON 2008

VENICE MARATHON

The route for the Venice Marathon 2008 is definitely one of the most appealing. The run starts in Stra on the 26th of October, a village situated some 26 miles from Venice, outside the beautiful Villa Pesani. The route winds its way through the Riviera del Brenta before setting up for a spectacular finish along the Venice waterfront at Riva dei Sette Martiri, past Saint Marks Square and dash home at Palazzo Ducale. The end of the race is particularly difficult as there are 3 big hills just as the athletes are reaching their breaking point. If you would simply like to watch or support someone else then you will have 26 miles of beautiful scenery to choose to spectate from. Venice itself would be an obvious choice as it marks the end of the run and is it will be home to a large number of site events to entertain the crowd as they wait for the runners to make their way to the city.

These side events are taking place inside San Giuliano Park under the banner of Exposport. The events being run include a Family Run, a Pasta Party, an African Village and the sports interactive areas managed by the sports Federation participating in the CONI (National Italian Olympic Committee). Aside from this you could also just take a look around the city which is full of historic landmarks.

How to get there: Venice is located in north-east Italy on the coast of the Adriatic. If you are travelling from Rome you will need to head north through Florence and Bologna; if you are coming from Milan you will need to head east through Brescia and Verona. Stra the start point for the race is about 26 miles west of the city and should not be difficult to find.
